Agreements to Enhance Training and Capacity Building Opportunities Between Benha University, Wuhan University, and Viber Home Communications Technology Company

Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, Prof. Zhang Pingwen, President of Wuhan University in China, and Mr. Fan Qi Qiang, Vice President of Viber Home Communications Technology Company, signed agreements for joint cooperation and the enhancement of training opportunities.

This took place during the second day of the visit by the President of Wuhan University and his accompanying delegation to Benha University, as part of the joint project between Benha and Wuhan Universities to establish a graduate studies college, which is expected to complete legislative procedures soon.

The signing of the agreements was witnessed by:

  • Mr. Lu Chunqing, Minister Counselor and Educational Advisor at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Cairo
  • Prof. Jehan Abdel-Hady, Vice President of Benha University for Postgraduate Studies and Research
  • The Academic Director at Benha University in Al-Obour City
  • The Director of the International Relations Office at the university
  • The Dean of the Graduate Studies College at Wuhan University
  • The Director of the State Key Laboratory
  • The Chair of the College of Economics and Management
  • The Dean of the International Education College
  • The Deputy Executive Director of the International Affairs Office
  • The Director of the Administration Office at Wuhan University

Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy stated in a press release that the cooperation agreements align with the vision of the Egyptian state and enhance the strategic partnership between Egypt and China in various fields. He noted that the deep understanding and shared vision between Benha and Wuhan Universities led to their agreement to establish a joint graduate studies college.

He expressed his happiness at the inclusion of an important partner, Viber Home, which operates in Egypt and is establishing a massive factory for fiber optics to meet Egypt's needs and export to the world. He highlighted that the company's plan to create an international training base at the Benha-Wuhan College will provide significant support to the college's students and serve as a training platform for Egyptians and neighboring countries in Africa.

The cooperation includes Viber Home Communications Technology Company establishing a practical training base at the Benha-Wuhan Graduate Studies College to improve the quality of training for personnel and enhance cooperation between China and Egypt in the field of space information science and communications. This also involves developing joint training plans and creating a scientific training system, as well as developing training courses and joint projects through regular training exchange activities to improve the quality of student training at the center.

The agreements also include establishing a mechanism for technical exchange and enhancing the exchange of visits among young scientific and technological talents, conducting joint research in digital technologies such as remote sensing and communications, and jointly applying to join the Chinese government's Belt and Road Initiative laboratory. Prof. El-Gizawy mentioned that over the past ten years, Benha University has sent more than ten of its young researchers to Wuhan University for joint research in space science and remote sensing.

Prof. Zhang Pingwen emphasized the deep relationship between Egypt and China, praising the successful experience and joint cooperation between Wuhan and Benha Universities in establishing a joint college named after both universities for graduate studies.

the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities approved the establishment of the Benha-Wuhan Graduate Studies College at Benha University in Al-Obour City, representing the first model of a joint academic institution between an Egyptian university and a Chinese university.

President of Benha University Welcomed President of Wuhan University in China and Accompanying Delegation

Prof. Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University, received a delegation from Wuhan University in China, led by Prof. Jiang Pengyuan, President of the university. The delegation included the Dean of the Graduate Studies College, the Director of the Main State Laboratory, the Chair of the College of Economics and Management, the Dean of the International Education College, the Deputy Executive Director of the Office of International Affairs, and the Director of the Administration Office at Wuhan University.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Jehan Abdel-Hadi, Vice President of Benha University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, along with the Deans of the Colleges of Science, Arts, and Engineering at Benha, the Academic Director of the university branch in Al-Obour, and the Director of the International Relations Office at the university.

Prof. El-Gizawy noted that this visit comes as part of establishing the Wuhan-Benha College of Postgraduate Studies at Benha University, which will be based at the university branch in Al-Obour City. This initiative represents the fruit of ten years of cooperation between the two universities. He mentioned that the college will offer various interdisciplinary specialties that grant dual degrees, diplomas, master's degrees, and doctoral degrees.

Prof. El-Gizawy added that the visit aims to enhance the relationship between the two universities and exchange academic experiences in all scientific fields. He expressed gratitude to the Minister of Higher Education, the President of the Supreme Council of Universities, the Chinese Ambassador in Cairo, and the Cultural Counselor at the Chinese Embassy for their support and approval to establish the Benha-Wuhan College of Postgraduate Studies at Benha University, which is set to commence studies next year.

Prof. Jiang Pengyuan, President of Wuhan University, stated that Egypt and China have historical relations that extend over decades. He emphasized that both the Egyptian and Chinese governments support this cooperation directly. Therefore, Wuhan University seeks to collaborate between the faculty members of both universities, particularly in research and scientific publication across various fields. He confirmed that this collaboration represents a true expression of the strong relationship between the two universities and the special ties between Egypt and China. Furthermore, this visit contributes to communication among faculty members and the exchange of experiences between the professors of both universities.

On the sidelines of the meeting, several discussion sessions were organized between the professors of both universities in various scientific and research fields to enhance the exchange of experiences and outline a map for joint cooperation in scientific research and training. Additionally, the Chinese delegation visited several scientific centers at the university, including the Skills and Medical Simulation Center, the Testing Center, and the university's sports Campus.

He further noted discussions on expanding collaboration through the "Silk Road Engineering Universities Alliance", fostering technical and scientific cooperation, promoting student exchange programs, and supporting joint research initiatives. Plans were also explored to establish a joint research institute at Benha University to drive innovation and scientific integration.

Prof. Tamer Samir announced the signing of a cooperation agreement between Wuhan University of Technology and Benha National University, aimed at expanding future partnerships in education, scientific research, and cultural exchange. He stressed that this aligns with Benha National University’s vision of global engagement and collaboration with prestigious international institutions.

Prof. Xin Sijin affirmed the long-standing scientific and student exchange ties between the universities, praising Benha University’s comprehensive academic influence in Egypt. He emphasized discussions on enhancing student training opportunities at Wuhan University of Technology, leveraging both institutions’ research capabilities.
